Bell Tower a destination for bicyclists

Minburn bicyclists 2Bicycling season is in full swing for bikers all over west central Iowa.

Several members of Team Scrambled Eggs of Minburn were in Jefferson Saturday sporting their colorful “Tour de Cluck” shirts from previous RAGBRAIs. The enthusiastic bicyclists shared that Team Scrambled Eggs had riders ranging in age from 6 to 59. They rode up the Raccoon River Valley Trail from Minburn and rode the elevator to the top of the Mahanay Bell Tower and chatted on the plaza before heading back home. It was the first time to the top for all of them except one, who said she had ridden to the top when she was 10 years old, “just a few years ago.”

The lushness of the trees they saw from the top of the Bell Tower struck them, and they complimented the courthouse square. “This is a lovely downtown you have. This is very, very nice,” one rider said.

Team Scrambled Eggs rides Wednesdays and Saturdays and takes advantage of the many bike trails in central Iowa, including the RRVT, the High Trestle Trail, and the trails around greater Des Moines.
